Steven  S. Binder, DC - President

Chairman of the Board of Directors
Dr. Steven Binder founded CNC in 1996 when managed care began its influence on the chiropractic profession in North Carolina. His main objective was to create a “partnership environment” between the chiropractors in North and South Carolina and the managed care organizations with whom we contract. His insight and vision, together with the leadership of the CNC Board of Directors, has led to the creation of this successful network and full-service healthcare administrative company.  He serves as President and Chairman of the Board of Directors for CNC and also serves on the Strategic Planning, Quality Improvement, Credentialing, Provider Relations and Finance Committees.

Dr. Binder has been in active practice since 1981 and has lectured nationally on chiropractic practice management for many years. He is a partner with Carolina Chiropractic Consultants and has served as a consultant to chiropractors across the country. He is a graduate of New York Chiropractic College.


Bob Stroud Jr., DC – Vice President
Dr. Stroud is a graduate of Texas Chiropractic College in Pasadena, Texas.  He is very active in the North Carolina Chiropractic Association, serving as President in 1995. He was awarded Doctor of the Year, Member of the Year, Special Service Award, Distinguished Service Award, and the NCCA President’s Award for multiple years. For the past 15 years, he chaired the Medicare, Medicaid, and Legislative Committee for the NCCA. Dr. Stroud was appointed to the NC Board of Examiners in 1997, 1998, 2005, and 2006. He is also President of the Chiropractic PAC of North Carolina and is a partner with Carolina Chiropractic Consultants. 

On a National level, Dr. Stroud has served as District President for the Council of Chiropractic State Association (COCSA) and served as an alternate delegate of the American Chiropractic Association for North Carolina. With 23 years as a full-time Chiropractor, he currently is Vice President of CNC, as well as serving on the Provider Relations, Quality Improvement and Planning Committees.


Matt Schmid, DC - Secretary
Dr. Schmid is a graduate of Palmer University in Davenport, Iowa, and has been involved with CNC since the organization was created. He is a full-time practicing Chiropractor in Raleigh, NC, and is certified in the treatment of sports injuries, musculoskeletal rehabilitation, and Chiropractic acupuncture. He is a member of the Provider Relations, Credentialing, and Quality Improvement Committees.


Larry W. Grosman, DC, Treasurer
Dr. Grosman is a graduate of Logan College of Chiropractic. He has lectured nationally on a variety of topics regarding practice management and has served as an officer on the Board of Directors for the North Carolina Chiropractic Association. He currently serves as Chairman of the Ethics and Grievance Committee of the NCCA, holding this position for 16 years. Dr. Grosman is also the chairman of the Finance Committee of CNC.


Richard C. Armstrong, MS, DC, CCSP
Dr. Armstrong is a summa cum laude graduate of the National College of Chiropractic and the 1987 recipient of the Joseph Janse Award. He earned a master's degree from Yale University and a bachelor’s degree from Wittenberg University. Dr. Armstrong is a past President of the North Carolina Chiropractic Association (NCCA) and coauthored the Manual for Chiropractic Treatment of Workman's Compensation of NC. He was appointed to the Advisory Council of the NC Industrial Commission and has been published in the Journal of Manipulative & Physiologic Therapeutics. For these and other contributions to his profession, Dr. Armstrong has been chosen Chiropractor of the Year twice by the NCCA. He co-founded Chiropractic Partners, a 13-office group practice in the Raleigh Triangle area, and built a state-of-the-art chiropractic clinic in Cary, NC, where he has practiced for 17 years. Dr. Armstrong is now lecturing nationally on various topics regarding chiropractic practice management.


Michael S. Binder, DC, CCEP
Dr. Binder is one of the founders of CNC and for several years served as its Quality Assurance Chairman. He is a certified extremity practitioner and has maintained a vibrant practice in Salisbury, NC, for 12 years. He is President of Carolina Chiropractic Consultants, a practice management company that specializes in coaching doctors in all aspects of practice success. He has been on the Board of Directors since CNC’s inception.


Rick H. Jackson, DC
Dr. Jackson is a 1971 graduate of Lincoln College of Chiropractic in Indianapolis, Indiana.  He has been a member of NCCA for 35 years. Dr. Jackson has been involved with CNC since the organization was established.  Dr. Jackson serves on the CNC Quality Improvement and Finance Committees.


Ira A. Rubin, DC, CCSP
Dr. Rubin is a graduate of the National College of Chiropractic.  He is a certified chiropractic sports physician and is certified in The Active Release Technique.  He is currently the chiropractor for North Carolina State University's athletic program and is a national lecturer and co-founder of the practice management group, The WOW Factor.  He has also provided his services for the NCAA track and field championships, the Jimmy V Golf Classic, and the SAS Senior Golf Championship. Dr. Rubin has been a part of CNC since its inception.


John A. Smith, DC, CCSP, FASA, PA
Dr. Smith graduated magna cum laude from the prestigious Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa and is one of four chiropractors in his immediate family. Dr. Smith is a Board Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician and a Fellow of the American Society of Acupuncture. He has been licensed in West Virginia, Pennsylvania and North Carolina. With over 23 years of clinical experience as a Doctor of Chiropractic, Dr. Smith is a past Team Chiropractor for the Carolina Cobras, and a current member of the North Carolina Chiropractic Association and the American Board of Chiropractic Sports Physicians. He participated in the development and is past president of Chiropractic Partners, a 13-office group practice in the greater Raleigh area.  In addition, he serves on the Provider Relations, Quality Improvement and Strategic Planning Committees of CNC.
